From a petroleum refinery to petrochemical plants,or pharmaceutical industry to glucose-starch plants,design&detail engineering of such big to medium scale projects include the following way of process engineering activities:
Review of selected design basis and specificiations
Mass and Energy Balances,hydraulic calculations
Preparing Engineering Flow Diagrams (PFD,PID,UFD,MSFD)
Equipment&instrument process spec. (including logic diagrams for control systems)
Hazop Activities on EFD if claimed
Review and provide technical comments and supports to Vendor quotations of items
Follow-up assistance to the Project team during detail enigneering and construction phases
Plant operating manual + Test Run/Start-up Activities
Moreover,if you are working for a middle level engineering company or there is not enough Project engineers around,the following duties are also up to you :P
coordination and control of the work of the specialty engineers and drafting group
updating and following up of EFD. Ensuring that the engineering and drafting works are done in accordance with the project procedures, applicable standards and codes
